Updated Dec 10, 2020;
The ADOC has now reported a total of 43 deaths related to the coronavirus.
Two weeks ago, the Associated Press reported that Alabama had the nation’s ninth highest rate of inmate deaths per 100,000 according to a report compiled by AP and the Marshall Project.
Four of the deaths announced today have happened since Monday.
Jeffery Bailey, 58, died Nov. 27. Bailey was housed in St. Clair Correctional Facility’s infirmary for treatment of his end-stage, preexisting medical conditions, the ADOC said. An autopsy found that Bailey was COVID-19 positive at the time of his death. Bailey was serving a life without the possibility of parole sentence for five counts of robbery in Jefferson County.
