An explosion at a grain elevator in Jefferson, Iowa, did not result in any injuries, according to the owner.
Landus Cooperative reported on its corporate blog Friday morning that dust particles caused an explosion at its Jefferson location around 8 a.m. The company added that local fire and emergency workers responded to the scene and contained the damage. An investigation into the cause of the incident will be conducted, the company wrote.
Local radio station KDLS reported that the explosion caused catastrophic property damage. Citing Jefferson Police Chief Mark Clouse, the station reported that the explosion blew a hole in a concrete wall, ripped off the tops of multiple grain bins and damaged catwalks and scaffolds. The west side of the building is crumbling, the station reported.
