Fairfield, IA- The Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation is investigating the death of a woman who is believed to have been hit by a train. According to a news release, at about 1:42 PM Sunday, April 9th Fairfield Police Officers responded to the 23rd Street crossing in response to a call of a person lying near the train tracks. Officers arrived on the scene and found the body of 30-year-old Cortney Heather Haynes of Fairfield, who was declared dead at the scene. The injuries found on Haynes' body were consistent with having been struck by a moving train. Shortly after the discovery of Haynes' body, the Fairfield Police Department requested assistance from the Iowa DCI in investigating Haynes' death. Also assisting with the investigation into the death of Haynes is the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office as well as the Jefferson County Attorney's Office.
