Boone Health to hold first vaccination clinic for ages 12-15 on Thursday

Boone Health is holding the first vaccination clinic for ages 12-15 in the mid-Missouri area at the Columbia Mall on Thursday morning.
The Pfizer clinic is open to anyone at least 12 years old and is the first clinic in the area vaccinating young teens after Wednesday night s vaccine approval by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Food and Drug Administration has given the Pfizer vaccine emergency use authorization for ages 12-15.
Missouri s Department of Health and Senior Services gave final authorization around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday for health providers to begin administering the vaccines to the age group.
Outreach clinics continue in Mid-Missouri as vaccine demand decreases

Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services has partnered with Boone Health and MU Health Care for a coronavirus vaccine outreach clinic on Ballenger Lane on Saturday.
The clinic was intended to be held at Indian Hills Park but rainy weather expected this weekend has prompted the change in locations. The event will still run from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. but will now be held at Columbia Fire Station No. 5 at 1400 Ballenger Lane.
Vaccines will be given to those who have scheduled appointments ahead of the event, but they are also accepting walk-ins.
Coronavirus vaccine side effects may be more common in women

Women are more likely to experience side effects from the coronavirus vaccines compared to their counterparts, a federal study shows.
And women made up all six cases that led to the pause in administering one brand of vaccine Tuesday.
According to the FDA, more than 6.8 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine have been given out in the United States. The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services said 105,721 doses of the Johnson & Johnson had been given out in Missouri as of Monday.
The FDA and CDC are investigating six cases involving blood clots after getting the vaccine. All six cases involve women ranging between 18 and 48 years old and all of the symptoms reported happened six to 13 days after getting vaccinated.

Hundreds of appointments available at Cole County coronavirus vaccination site

The permanent Cole County coronavirus vaccination site officially opened on Monday at the Capital Mall and walk-ins are welcome.
According to health officials from the site, about 300 appointments were filled for the day by about 9:30 a.m. Monday and walk-ins are being accepted until 2 p.m. About 700 spots remained unfilled.
This week the site is giving out the Pfizer vaccine, which is approved for anyone at least 16 years old.
Kristi Campbell, the director of the Cole County Health Department, said the site is being run by a partnership between multiple health organizations. Capital Region Medical Center, the Community Health Center of Central Missouri, Jefferson City Medical Group and SSM St. Mary s Hospital are working with the health department and National Guard to staff the site.
