Comal Independent School District said it has stepped up disinfectant treatments at Canyon Middle School after an uptick in COVID-19 cases at the campus.
The 40 active and 217 symptomatic cases at the school, reported on Comal ISDâs COVID-19 page on Tuesday, account for nearly half of both totals, 86 and 394 respectively, throughout the district, which ended its mandatory mask mandate at facilities on March 10.
âFor the two week period between April 19 and May 4, there have been 48 students who have tested positive, most of whom have been asymptomatic,â said Steve Stanford, the districtâs executive communications director, who said 238 students were quarantined after being exposed to those identified as lab-confirmed positive cases.

More than 200,000 energy customers in Texas are still without power, after millions endured outages earlier this week as the state was hit by a winter storm and freezing temperatures.
Power Outage US reports that approximately 211,000 customers in Texas are now without power, with most outages impacting major companies such as Oncor, American Electric Power Texas and Austin Energy.
Emergency conditions remain in effect, but the Electric Reliability Council of Texas says it has been able to balance generation and load on the system, without having to issue additional outages.

Millions of Texans were without power overnight Monday, with the state s main grid operator declaring its highest level of emergency as Winter Storm Uri hits.
Tracker Power Outage US reported 3.9 million outages early Tuesday morning, with hundreds of thousands of CenterPoint Energy, Oncor, American Electric Power Texas, CPS Energy, and Austin Energy customers without power.
Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) has said electricity demand is exceeding supply in the freezing temperatures and has told energy providers to implement controlled and rotating outages.
