Fire board welcomes new commissioner and more By TIFFANY REPECKI / trepecki@breezenewspapers.com - | Jan 20, 2021 PHOTO PROVIDED Colin Black The Captiva Island Fire Control District’s commission recently appointed a candidate to fill a vacant seat on the board and also voted on resolutions for a replacement staff vehicle and new software. At the Jan. 12 meeting, Commissioners Jeffrey Brown and Sherrill Sims voted 2-0 on a resolution appointing Colin Black to Seat 3, which was vacated in October by former Commissioner C.W. Kilgore when he resigned. Black will hold the seat until the next General Election, set for November 2022. Present for the meeting, he received a warm welcome from the commission and district staff.

Fire commissioners approve purchase of new radios By TIFFANY REPECKI / trepecki@breezenewspapers.com - | Dec 15, 2020 TIFFANY REPECKI The Captiva Island Fire Control District s commissioners approved the purchase of new mobile and portable radios for the district so it is in compliance with Lee County s radio network upgrade. At its recent meeting, the Captiva Island Fire Control District’s commission approved the purchase of new radios to match a county upgrade, as well as picked a candidate for an open seat on the board. On Dec. 8, Commissioners Sherrill Sims and Jeffrey Brown voted 2-0 on a resolution to allow for a capital expenditure to replace the district’s current mobile and portable 800 mghz radios. The purchase is necessary in order to be compliant with the P25 digital upgrade that Lee County is performing to its radio network. The cost of the radios is not to exceed $54,000 per the quote received from Motorola.
