The first doses of COVID-19 vaccine for Chatham-Kent arrived Monday and were quickly injected into long-term care home residents.
A grateful Bill Breedon was the first person to be vaccinated at Riverview Gardens in Chatham.

âI am saying yes to the vaccine for health reasons,â he said in a statement. âI have a history of strokes and want protection from the disease and the severe symptoms that can come along with it.â
Trained staff from the public health unit and Chatham-Kent emergency medical services administered the vaccine.

A COVID-19 outbreak was declared Wednesday at a Chatham-Kent workplace with two active cases.
The workplace is not open to the public so is not being named by Chatham-Kent public health.

“We are working with the employer to contact and isolate anyone impacted at this workplace as we investigate two positive cases,” public health spokesperson Jeff Moco said.
One case was also confirmed at St. Anne elementary school in Blenheim. Twenty-two students and two staff members from one class were sent home to quarantine while two St. Anne bus students were also told to self-isolate, said spokesperson Todd Lozon of the St. Clair Catholic district school board.
