Dover city council votes to override vetoes by mayor

DOVER At a sometimes contentious special session Friday evening that lasted nearly three hours, Dover council voted to override Mayor Richard Homrighausen s vetoes of two pieces of legislation. The first piece established rates for customers of Dover Power & Light and included a surcharge on electricity used by Dover Chemical Corp. Council voted 6-1 to override that veto. Law Director Doug O Meara has alleged that employees of the city s Electric Field Division had been maintaining and upgrading the lines and equipment inside Dover Chemical, in violation of an ordinance passed by council in 1975. The surcharge would allow the city to recoup about $2.2 million in free uncompensated services that O Meara said the company received.

2020 Barrel Full of Money fundraiser most successful to date December 17, 2020 WALLA WALLA, WA (Dec. 16, 2020) – The 10th Annual Barrel Full of Money fundraiser raised a record amount once again this holiday season, despite challenges faced in light of the pandemic, as nearly 50 Walla Walla Valley wineries, area businesses and nonprofit organizations teamed up to raise a significant amount of money for the Blue Mountain Action Council (BMAC) Food Bank. Barrel Full of Money is a joint effort by BMAC, the Walla Walla Valley Wine Alliance, and other local business sponsors to raise funds in support of local food pantries. Alaska Airlines, Baker Boyer Bank, Columbia REA, Dunham Cellars, Grocery Outlet, Hayden Homes, Seguin Moreau, The Thief Fine Wine & Beer, TMACS, the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin and Walla Walla Valley Wine Alliance member wineries came together this year to donate time, money and resources to the cause.
