Granite Shoals program features speakers, fun for 50s-and-older crowd The Granite Shoals Senior Citizens Group is hosting its first meetup of 2021 on Wednesday, May 19, at the Granite Shoals Community Center. Courtesy photo The Granite Shoals Senior Citizens Group is hosting its first meetup of 2021 at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, in the Granite Shoals Community Center, 1208 N. Phillips Ranch Road.  Organizers plan to hold meetups from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. every Wednesday. The event includes a speaker, board games, lunch, and fellowship.

Staff photo by Jennifer Fierro Some Granite Shoals residents don’t like the proposed Granite Pointe development, and they let the City Council know their feelings during its regular meeting Tuesday, May 11. “There’s been a lack of transparency from day one,” resident Stephen Davis said during a public hearing on the development’s zoning change request. “This has been pushed before us. It’s a big mistake. Density will cause a problem for us, and we’re all concerned.” 

Granite Shoals, private company partner on Rockcrest waterline project

Subscribe Now The city of Granite Shoals is sharing the cost of installing a 1,000-foot-long, 6-inch waterline along Rockcrest Drive with Qro Mex Construction, which is building six homes on the road. Staff photo by Jennifer Fierro The city of Granite Shoals is splitting the $52,000 projected cost of a new waterline along Rockcrest Drive with Qro Mex Construction, which is building eight houses on the street.  The partnership also should save the city time. “We don’t have the people or the equipment to do it,” City Manager Jeff Looney said.

Courtesy photo The city of Granite Shoals has a new recreation coordinator, Angela Jackson-Gallardo, who started May 3. Jackson-Gallardo comes to Granite Shoals after stints with Inks Lake State Park and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. She has a background in photography, graphic design, organizing volunteers, and other park-related duties. “(The job is) all encompassing. I really like that kind of work,” she said. She earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental science from Tarleton State University. At the time, she was a nursing major, but her career compass changed after a vacation at Big Bend National Park. Growing up, her family’s vacations were often at parks, where they camped
