The National Weather Service out of Paducah, Kentucky has issued a severe heat advisory for the following counties in Southern Illinois: Wayne, Edwards, Wabash, Franklin, Hamilton, Jefferson, White, Williamson, Saline, Gallatin, Johnson, Pope, Hardin, and Massac; as well as parts of Southwest Indiana, Western Kentucky, and Southern Missouri. This heat advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. Saturday through 8 p.m. Sunday. Heat index values could exceed 107 degrees. Our area is already under an extended advisory lasting through Wednesday, with triple digit indices through mid-next week. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside.
