AUSTIN, Texas – A physician with a terminal cancer diagnosis killed a pediatrician and then himself after taking hostages at a doctor’s office in Austin, police said Wednesday.
A SWAT team found the bodies of Dr. Katherine Lindley Dodson and Dr. Bharat Narumanchi late Tuesday after negotiators spent hours trying to speak to the people inside the office, police said.

A terminally ill physician stormed into a pediatrician’s Austin, Texas office Monday afternoon with “numerous guns” and killed Dr. Katherine Lindley Dodson after a lengthy standoff with police before taking his own life.
Police are still trying to determine what connection, if any, suspect Bharat Narumanchi who had last practiced in California had with Dodson, 43, or why he wanted to target the Children’s Medical Group office.
Austin Police Lt. Jeff Greenwalt said authorities received a call around 4:30 p.m. Monday about a man who had entered the medical office with a gun and taken numerous hostages.

A Texas man who recently applied but was denied a volunteer position at the Children s Medical Group is now at the center of what authorities dubbed as the Austin Standoff.
The man identified by authorities as 43-year-old Bharat Narumanchi, who was reportedly terminally-ill with cancer, killed another doctor and himself within the premises of a medical office in Austin on Tuesday.
Five Individuals Held Hostage
According to Fox News, Narumanchi went to the firm on West 35th Street at around 4:30 in the afternoon. Upon arriving, the perpetrator immediately showed a gun based on the report by the Austin Police Department.

A violent hostage situation at the Children’s Medical Group in Austin, Texas ended with the tragic killing of Dr. Lindley Dodson, a beloved pediatrician. The suspect, Dr. Bharat Narumanchi, who was terminally ill, allegedly walked into the offices armed with a pistol, a shot gun and two duffel bags, and killed Dodson before turning the gun on himself, taking his own life, authorities said.

More details have been revealed about the terminally ill doctor suspected of killing a beloved Austin pediatrician before turning the gun on himself following an hourslong police standoff.
Austin Police Department (APD) investigators are still working to determine why Dr. Bharat Narumanchi targeted Children’s Medical Group pediatrician Dr. Katherine Lindley Dodson late Tuesday afternoon when he walked into the West 35 Street Office and took people hostage.
Four of the hostages all of whom were adult employees were able to get out, either by escaping or being released by Narumanchi, police said Wednesday. Dodson was unable to escape.
