(WXYZ & ASSOCIATED PRESS) â Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer will discuss the state s infrastructure plan during a U.S. Senate hearing.
The governor s office says Gov. Whitmer will join the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works hearing on Wednesday. She is expected to discuss the stateâs infrastructure needs during the virtual meeting.
The governor is expected to promote her Rebuilding Michigan plan which includes a heavy focus on local bridges, like the Miller Rotunda Bridge in Dearborn, which is relying on 600 temporary supports and in bad need of repairs.

LANSING Not just roads, but bridges and dams will be targeted for extra funding in the 2022 state budget and a new supplemental spending plan for this year, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said Tuesday.
Whitmer, in her first detailed discussion of the budget plan that will be presented to the Legislature Thursday, told the Free Press her plan will include $300 million from the state general fund to repair or replace up to 129 local bridges that are in serious or critical condition.
That s on top of the record $3.6 billion in proposed capital spending on roads in 2021 up from just under $2 billion in 2020, as first reported by the Free Press just ahead of Whitmer s State of the State address in January. Proposed capital spending on roads for fiscal year 2022 is $3.1 billion, Michigan Department of Transportation spokesman Jeff Cranson said.

After 54 years, Greeley West High School will get a new building. The new building will be built on the same site as the old one, on 35th Avenue and 24th Street, and will open in the fall of 2022.
Greeley West is one many schools to benefit from a voter-approved bond measure. The community voted yes for the $395 million bond, which will fund many District 6 projects. The measure passed with 54.54% of the vote.
Greeley West High School was built in the 1960s. The world has changed since then. The world is no longer in a Cold War, and Greeley’s population has grown exponentially since then. HOLLAND — While traffic crashes in the state of Michigan increased in 2020, Ottawa County actually saw fewer crashes and fatalities last year compared to 2019.According to data released by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, there were 5,753 total traffic crashes in Ottawa County last year, including property damage crashes, injury crashes and fatal crashes. That’s a 23 percent reduction from total crashes in 2019.Of the total crashes, alcohol was a factor in 205 of them.
