Two years to the day after a violent mob stormed the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to disrupt the certification of Joe Biden as the nation’s next president, a Portage attorney filed a tort claim against Porter County Council President Jeremy Rivas asking for $300,000 in damages for defamation because of a Facebook post on Oct. 30 in which Rivas called him “an insurrectionist” for traveling to Washington, D.C.
On a foggy New Year’s morning, it was standing room only as Porter County Republicans met at the county council chambers to swear in their newly elected county and township officials. A smaller crowd was in attendance a few hours later when Porter County Democrats met in the room to do the same.
Valparaiso Mayor Matt Murphy announced Tuesday that Andrew McIntyre, a longtime detective with the Valparaiso Police Department, will be Valparaiso’s next Chief of Police.
