Nelsonville senior firefighter, Jeff Armes, collapsed and died at the scene of a structure fire Sunday, the Nelsonville Division of Fire announced in a social media statement.
At approximately 5:04 pm, the Nelsonville Division of Fire was alerted for a structure fire on Pleasantview Avenue, the division noted in a social media post. While on scene and actively fighting a fire, Armes reportedly collapsed. Fellow firefighters and EMS administered CPR and advanced life support care. Armes was transported by Athens County EMS to OhioHealth OâBleness Hospital in Athens where he was pronounced dead, the divisionâs statement said. Nelsonville Fire Chief Harry Barber informed the department of the line of duty death.
