Her husband had been emotionally abusive from the start of their relationship, she said. But things kept escalating over the years and, on that date, he physically assaulted her so severely that she described the incident as “life-threatening.” She said it happened in front of their 6-year-old daughter and was loud enough that a neighbor called the NYPD.  That’s when she decided to leave her husband for good.
