Top stories Donald Trump has rejected responsibility for the violent riot at the US Capitol that he incited. Trump has claimed his speech before the violence was “totally appropriate.” “So if you read my speech, and many people have done it, and I’ve seen it both in the papers and in the media, on television, it’s been analysed, and people thought that what I said was totally appropriate.” Trump has also said the impeachment “is really a continuation of the greatest witch-hunt in the history of politics” and “is causing tremendous anger”. US officials are strengthening security measures across the US after the FBI said far-right groups were continuing to threaten plots before Joe Biden’s inauguration on 21 January.
