OCEAN TOWNSHIP (Monmouth) The state Supreme Court ruled unanimously Tuesday that a police department’s policy toward female officers who sought lighter workloads while pregnant violated state law.
Office Kathleen Delanoy alleged in a lawsuit that the police department’s maternity policy violated New Jersey’s Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, which took effect in 2014 and strengthened protections for pregnant women in the workplace.
Delanoy said injured officers who sought lighter work assignments were treated more favorably than pregnant officers seeking the same accommodation. For example, she said, the department s chief had discretion to waive a requirement for injured officers to use up accumulated leave time while on temporary assignment, while pregnant officers weren t afforded the same option.

Hudson County View
Activists and elected leaders teamed up to hold a rally against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) outside the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny this evening.
“Defund hate, defund fear, immigrants are welcome here!” was one of several chants that rang out in front of the county jail, located at 30-35 Hackensack Ave., this afternoon.
The Hudson County Board of Commissioners (technically still freeholders) extended their deal with ICE for up to another decade at their November 24th meeting after over 10 hours of public comment, the majority of which was spent listen to the public speak out against it.
ACLU calls Hudson County exec’s restraining order ‘extraordinary.’ It wasn’t meant in a good way.
Updated Dec 15, 2020;
An ACLU attorney called the temporary restraining order filed against protesters by the Hudson County executive and five freeholders “heavy-handed” and an “extraordinary” action Tuesday after asking the court to expedite the case.
The TRO was filed by Tom DeGise on behalf of himself and Freeholders Anthony Vainieri, Tony Romano, Albert Cifelli, Kenny Kopacz and Caridad Rodriguez after a group began protesting nightly in front of his Jersey City home over the recently approved county contract with the federal Immigration, Customs and Enforcement to detain illegal immigrants at the Hudson County jail.
