Valerie Macon / AFP via Getty Images By For weeks, doctors’ phones have been ringing off the hook with anxious older patients on the other end of the line. “When can I get a covid-19 vaccine?” these patients want to know. “And where?” Frustration and confusion are rampant as states and counties begin to offer vaccines to all seniors after giving them first to front-line health care workers and nursing home residents — the groups initially given priority by state and federal authorities.

New COVID-19 vaccine trial opens in Colorado

A new COVID-19 vaccine clinical trial is starting in Colorado. Researchers at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and UCHealth on the CU Anschutz Medical Campus are recruiting potential study participants for the COVID-19 investigational vaccine clinical trial. This is the third COVID-19 vaccine trial underway at UCHealth locations. The recruitment period will run about two months at UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital which is the only hospital in Colorado participating in this clinical trial. The investigational vaccine, NVX-CoV2373, which contains a protein antigen and the company’s Matrix-M adjuvant, is being evaluated in a phase 3 clinical trial sponsored by Novavax and supported by the National Institutes of Health.

Photo courtesy of UCHealth. UCHealth has now provided the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to over 32,000 people and second doses to an additional 1,000 health care workers. Vaccines began being offered to people age 70 and older by UCHealth last week and continues to vaccinate those in this group as timely and safely as possible. UCHealth began vaccinating health care providers on Monday, December 14, starting with physicians and staff members who have been providing the most frequent and direct care for patients with COVID-19.

Vaccines for those older than 70 now offered – BizWest

UCHealth and Banner Health have begun to administer COVID-19 vaccine doses to people 70 years old and older as doses are available. UCHealth has administered initial doses to more than 32,000 people and second doses to an additional 1,000 health-care workers. It began offering vaccines to people 70 and older, who are included in the state’s phase 1 distribution plan for the vaccine. A health-care worker receives a second dose of COVID-19 vaccine this week within the UCHealth system. Courtesy UCHealth Banner began administering second doses to health-care workers Thursday and has distributed  35,000 doses across the Banner system so far. Banner has operations in multiple states. Vaccines for people 70 years and older are administered as they are available, according to Sara Quale, spokeswoman for Banner in Northern Colorado.
