In 2018, Bothan Jean, a 26-year-old Black man, was shot dead in his Dallas apartment by an off-duty law enforcement officer.
Now, Dallas is set to honor Jean by naming a four-mile stretch of road after him.
On Wednesday, the Dallas City Council approved the name change, following a proposal presented to them by Mayor Pro Tem Adam Medrano and two council members. The stretch, from South Lamar Street between Interstate 30, all the way to South Central Expressway, will be called “Botham Jean Boulevard.”
The stretch covers the South Side Flats apartment complex where Jean stayed and was fatally shot by the police. Also falling within the stretch is the Dallas Police Department headquarters, reports KTVT, a CNN affiliate.
