By Phillip Blancher, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter Low water levels approved for January-February 2021 Another deviation from the Plan 2014 water management plan for Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River was approved by the International Joint Commission. The approved plan will see more water drained out of Lake Ontario to help mitigate shoreline flooding next spring. In January 2020, the IJC approved a similar plan which saw water levels on lowered well below minimum levels required for navigation on the St. Lawrence Seaway.
