Blaring warning sirens throughout Maui failed to activate as the apocalyptic wildfires swept through the island this week, officials confirmed Friday as residents returned to what was left of their homes.
At least six people are dead from raging wildfires that ripped through the heart of Maui Wednesday and other parts of the Hawaiian island – forcing terrified residents to jump into the ocean to escape a fiery death.
Evacuations are underway across Hawaii’s Big Island and Maui as winds associated with Hurricane Dora, which is in the Pacific Ocean south of Hawaii, helped fan wildfires that have damaged structures.
