THE Crown and Anchor Inn in Llanidloes is a special pub. Historically the public house is among the most important in the entire region with its name originating from the simple dice game, traditionally played for gambling purposes by 18th century sailors in the Royal Navy. Affectionately nicknamed Ruby s after long serving landlady, Ruby Holmes, the Longbridge Street inn is a grade II pub with a haberdashery shop was brought into pub use in 1948. There is a small corridor connecting the various rooms and in the front bar there is a framed document listing all the inns that ever existed in this market town.
