What started out as a thoughtful gesture to help alleviate his Nanny Teresa’s arthritis has turned into a recipe for success for Louth GAA star Conor Grimes and fiancée, model Jayne Gavin.
Little did the DIT graduates realise when they went touring Australia and Asia for a year that a visit to an Indian spice market, where they saw locals use fresh herbs and spices to help combat inflammation in the body, would snowball into a food product called Spoonful Botanical they now hand-make with a blend of 14 herbs, spices and fermented fruits.
“We were travelling for pleasure in India after finishing college and when we got back home with the roots of spices, we ground them down for Nanny but we never thought it was going to be a business.
A spoonful of sugar may help the medicine go down, but to really feel great, Spoonful Botanical seems to do the trick! So much so, that the two local entrepreneurs behind the innovative product will be flying the flag for Louth in a prestigious national award.
