Of course our children gained weight in lockdown – but let’s not shame parents for that

My first thought when I read the report published this week about the “horrific” impact of the third lockdown on children’s weight, fitness levels and mental health was, is it any wonder?
The survey by the Schools Active Movement, showed that 84 per cent of schools thought children’s fitness levels had declined during the lockdowns, while two thirds (66 per cent) of the 2,647 schools surveyed believed children had gained ‘excessive’ weight.
