Seven old trees along the Old Airport Road have already been axed to construct an underpass at Suranjan Das Road Junction.
On 14th March, BBMP workers had also begun pruning the branches of many large trees that have been earmarked for felling.
These heritage trees were once home to hundreds of birds, and shade for small animals and motorists.

The petitioner had sought direction for widening Ramana Maharshi Road (commonly known as Ballari Road) as per clearance given by the apex court in 2014, and to scientifically regulate traffic on this stretch of the road.
