The Channel 4 show’s latest addition to the team of tough-guy taskmasters, as revealed by The Sun this month, risked his life fighting for Britain during three decades in the military 12 of them in the SAS.

Melvyn was involved in a harrowing mission during the first Gulf War, while part of the Staffordshire Regiment, in which he came under heavy fire, so rest assured, 56-year-old Melvyn has more than earned his place.

Channel 4’s SAS: Who Dares Wins is back with a brand new series, in which a new line-up of 21 recruits are put through their paces by the show’s ex Special Forces instructors.

Ant Middleton has returned as Chief Instructor for these upcoming episodes, which were filmed before the SAS star left the show last year, however there are a few missing faces from the Directing Staff – namely Ollie Ollerton and Jay Morton, who quit the show last summer.
Not to fear – there’s a brand new instructor onboard who’ll be drawing on his military experience to subject this year’s contestants to some of the toughest physical and mental challenges they’ve ever faced.

ATTENSHUN, fans of SAS: Who Dares Wins – there’s a new recruit to the toughest show on TV.
Melvyn Downes, ex-soldier turned Scout leader, has signed up as the Channel 4 show’s first mixed-race officer and member of the Directing Staff (DS).

He falls in alongside the now-released Ant Middleton, Jason Fox and Mark “Billy” Billingham.
The 55-year-old tough guy led operational tours in Iraq and Northern Ireland during more than two decades in the Armed Forces, which included 12 years in the SAS.
