they are the easy thing to do if this is a president who wants to put immigration policy above himself. and joining me now for a special interview of skype is washington state governor jay insly that brought this case. what did this ruling mean to you? well, it meant that our system of checks and balances fundamentally is intact and that the constitution and evidence is what counts in the courtroom rather than the number of tweet that is you send out over the internet and what this was about. look. you have to have evidence coming into court. the president lost on numerous ways for a lack of evidence. he did not present evidence that this is a security threat to the united states that could be remedied by this effort. he did not present evidence that this did not discriminate against the muslim faith. it was clear from the evidence that was presented this does discriminate. it sends muslims to the back of the bus. and that s not surprising
his posts, saying, the judge opens up our country to potential terrorists and others that do not have our best interest at heart. bad people are very happy. and earlier in the day, president trump tweeting out this, the opinion of this so-called judge, which essentially takes law enforcement away from our country, is ridiculous and will be overturned. jessica schneider, cnn, palm beach, florida. those tweets that jessica mentioned there were ridiculed by washington s governor as beneath the dignity of the presidency. earlier before the appeal was filed by the u.s. justice department, governor jay insly, spoke about the importance of the legal challenge his state brought against the president s executive order. the president can tweet until the cows come home, but the fact of the matter is, he is bound by this order. it is a legally binding order, and he s going to have to follow it. that s the way our system of checks and balances work.
what the house said today very loudly and almost unanimously, we said that this should not come to the floor of the house of representatives. you say it s not not going to the floor. i read part of your letter. you said because this is not a compromise. you say this was a mistake. congressman, i want you play you a sound bite. this is president obama 48 hours ago. here he is. on the republican side, this is their holy grail. these tax cuts for the wealthy. this is seems to be their central economic doctrine. and so unless we have 60 votes in the senate at any given time, it would be very hard for us to move this forward. so, congressman, the president essentially saying to you and your fellow democrats, you don t get it. this is reality. this is the best deal he could get. what do you say to the president? i think it is hard. i think that is their central holy grail.
this two-year cost of this new tax cut, it s somewhere in the ballpark between 800 and $900 billion. that is just specifically the tax cut. and then the top 2% would take up about 20% of that, that 800 to $900 billion pie. congressman, how close is that to what you re hearing? how close is that to reality? i think the upper-income portion of that pie is actually higher than that 20%, a bit higher. and as a result of that, you know, we basically know this. we know that america deserves a better deal. we know we would prefer the clinton-era economy to the bush-era millionaire tax cuts. and we know this is not coming to the floor as it is presently constituted. we look forward to working with the president and the republicans to move forward on the bipartisan consensus. we do have we do have a bipartisan consensus to move this forward, but we are not
