A Martinsburg man is facing nearly 130 criminal charges relating to forgery and theft after an investigation revealed he allegedly stole about $53,000 from his employer.
Jay Anthony Garver Jr., 53, was arraigned Thursday by Magisterial District Judge Paula Aigner on 43 felony counts of forgery, 14 theft-related felonies and 72 counts of lesser crimes, according to court documents.
An investigation into Garver’s alleged thefts began in January 2020 after police were notified Garver allegedly deposited two of his employer’s checks into a personal account a few weeks prior, a criminal complaint stated.
A safety and human resources officer for Metzler Bros. Inc., Garver reportedly worked for the company for about three years until the owner terminated Garver’s employment at the end of 2019.
