WAUSAU - The city will be the site of a planned protest Sunday in the wake of the killing of Daunte Wright, a 20-year-old Black man fatally shot by Brooklyn Center, Minnesota Police Officer Kim Potter on April 11.
The protest will take place at the Marathon County Courthouse at 4 p.m., according to the event Facebook page.
The protest is one of several that have been held in the community in less than a year in the wake of multiple instances of violence against Black people by police across the country.
Potter, who resigned from the Brooklyn Center Police Department, said she drew her firearm instead of her Taser and fatally shot Wright during a traffic stop on April 11. She has since been arrested and charged with second-degree manslaughter.
