Spring festival kicks off

LAHORE:Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has organised different programmes and activities in connection with Jashan-e-Baharan (spring festival) in the provincial metropolis.
A colourful inaugural ceremony of spring festival was held at Jilani Park here on Thursday by Adviser to Chief Minister Asif Mahmood. The ceremony was scheduled to be held on March 1 and Chief Minister Usman Buzdar was supposed to inaugurate the festival but it was delayed for four days due to the tight schedule of the chief minister. PHA Chairman Engineer Yasir Gilani, PHA Vice-Chairman Hafiz Zeeshan Rashid, DG Jawad Ahmad Qureshi and other PHA officers participated in the inaugural ceremony.

The Lahore Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) is finding it difficult to fulfill its responsibility of providing a healthy environment and recreational facilities to the citizens due to shortage of funds and lack of interest of the official concerned.
About 80 per cent of parks across the provincial capital are in a dilapidated condition, while one six major ones are better maintained.
According to PHA Director General Jawad Ahmad Qureshi, a business plan has been prepared to overcome the shortage of funds. The amount generated by implementing the plan would be spent on the beautification of the city, he told The Express Tribune.
At least two persons were injured during a fight that disrupted the International Dog Show organised by the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) at Jillani Park on Sunday.

This was stated by Senator Waleed Iqbal while addressing an event on Quaid-e-Azam Day organised by Aiwan-e-Iqbal and Iqbal Academy Pakistan. Iqbal Academy Pakistan Vice-President Dr Shahzad Qaiser, Director Prof Dr Baseera Ambreen, Anjum Waheed, administrator Aiwan-e-Iqbal, Nuzhat Akbar regional director, National Book Foundation, Brigadier (retd) Wajahat Hussain Sahi, director, Numl University and Haroon Akram Gill were also present.
Waleed Iqbal said Quaid-e-Azam changed the course of time, history and nation. Prof Dr Baseera Ambreen said “Both Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal are our focus and centre.
