St Jago High s Kymani Thomas clears the bar at 1.75m to win the Boys Class 1 high jump at the JAAA qualification field event meet at Excelsior High School on Saturday, February 27, 2021. Kingston College (KC) and Hydel High’s girls dominated the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) qualification field event meet at Excelsior High School on Saturday. The day marked the return of track and field to Jamaica even as the authorities continue to grapple with the unrelenting surge in COVID-19 cases.  However, 24 hours later the local sporting sector was dealt a further blow when Prime Minister Andrew Holness announced that the Government would not be able to grant approval to sporting associations for the resumption of their various disciplines.
