A Winston-Salem police officer is recovering after a crash Sunday evening.It happened around 10:45 p.m. near the intersection of Silas Creek Parkway and Peters Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem.Authorities say the officer, identified as Cpl. James Pleasant, 37, suffered minor injuries.One person, who left the scene of the crash, was arrested after later being located by police. That person has been identified as Javier Gutierrez-Peralta, 37, of Lexington. According to police, Cpl. Pleasant was traveling north on Peters Creek Parkway, making a left turn while having the green light. Gutierrez-Peralta was traveling south on Peters Creek Parkway and entered the intersection on a steady red light, colliding with the passenger side of Corporal Pleasant’s cruiser. WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. Winston-Salem police arrested a man accused of hitting an officer’s patrol car and leaving the scene Sunday night, according to a release.
Police responded to the crash involving Corporal James Pleasant’s patrol car and a green SUV at Peters Creek Parkway and Silas Creek Parkway. Investigators said Officer Pleasant was making a left turn in the intersection when he was hit by an SUV that ran a red light. The driver of the SUV took off toward I-40, officials said.
