The recent elections in Odisha saw a 61.24% voter turnout for five Lok Sabha constituencies and 35 assembly segments. While most polling was peaceful, a murder near a booth and some disturbances and power outages briefly disrupted voting. The BJD and BJP both remain optimistic about their performances.
BJP and BJD are in a symbol row after the Election Commission of India sought clarification from the state government for alleged use of BJD symbol 'conch' in government advertisements. BJP is demanding cancellation of the BJD's party symbol, while BJD counters by questioning the use of lotus symbol in G20 logo and other government schemes.
The EC had received complaints alleging the BJD symbol was displayed on advertisements funded by the state government in newspapers, TV channels, hoardings and Odisha State Road Transport Corporation buses, the sources said.
