Jasper Water Works repairs are scheduled for today, beginning at 8:30 am. Brody I. Murbarger's attempt to get a new trial has been denied. Murbarger appeared in Wayne County Court Friday, seeking a new trial due due to his attorney claiming that with local and national media coverage, social media, and rumors claiming Murbarger was convicted of murder in the public eye prior to jury selection. Murbarger was found guilty of first-degree murder in the in the 2014 disappearance and killing of 15-year-old Megan Nichols in October 2022 after only an hour of jury deliberation. Sentencing for Murbarger has been set for January 25, 2023 in Wayne County Court. On Saturday, January 21st the Hope Center in Albion will be holding a "Feed the Family" at 9 am. Jasper Water Works repairs scheduled for today have been postponed until Monday, 1/16/2023, beginning at 8:30 am Effingham - Illinois State Police Troop 9 Commander, Captain Nathan Douglas, announces the ISP will conduct Nighttime Enforcement (NITE) patrols in Effingham and Wayne County during February 2023. NITE patrols allow the ISP to focus on preventing, detecting, and taking enforcement action in response to impaired driving and occupant restraint violations especially between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. The number of unrestrained drivers killed in traffic crashes is significantly higher at nighttime and Illinois. Over half of all fatal crashes in Illinois occur at night. The NITE program allows officers to work even harder at removing dangerous impaired drivers from the road and making sure everyone is buckled up.
