Even though the water has gone down, the forecast for more rain in the Jasper Area has many wondering about the need for sand bags.
Jasper County Precinct 1 Commissioner Seth Martindale said Tuesday that he has both sand and sandbags available at his maintenance barn on County Road 80, just off of Highway 63 West.
Martindale said the only thing needed is manpower and you can have all of the sandbags you want. Just bring a shovel.
Martindale said later in the day that he had learned that a decision had been made to provide sand and sandbags at all precinct barns within the county.
Tyler County Sheriff Bryan Weatherford announced Wednesday that a Jasper man has been arrested in Woodville and is believed to be involved in the theft of catalytic converters. 62-year-old Ruben Metcalf, who was once a pastor here in the Jasper Area, is currently in the Tyler County Jail.
According to Weatherford, his deputies and Woodville Police responded at about 10:00 Tuesday night on a report of suspicious activity at Fellowship Church on Highway 69 South and arrived to find Metcalf sitting in an SUV on the parking lot with several catalytic converters on the ground.
Weatherford said Metcalf told the deputies that he was going to meet somewhere there about buying the devices. However, Weatherford said deputies obtained information and evidence showing that the catalytic converters had possibly been stolen off of vehicles in both Jasper and Tyler Counties â a problem that has been occurring all across Deep East Texas in recent months.
