Recent Facebook surveys asked Peoria Journal Star and Pekin Daily Times readers to weigh in on their favorite non-chain pizzerias. With results still coming in, nearly 500 readers obliged with comments.
Area favorites included a mixture of the old – like Agatucci’s in Peoria, established in 1926 – and newer choices like George’s Pizza in East Peoria, which opened last year. Because of the wide variety of pizza toppings and crust styles available, a side-by-side comparison may often be like measuring apples against oranges. Is the deep dish pie at Peoria Pizza Works in Peoria Heights better than the wood-fired pizza at Cheese Nuts in Peoria? How does the brick-oven pizza at Maquet’s Railhouse in Pekin stack up against the Quad City-style pizza at Knuckles Pizza and Sports Bar in Far North Peoria?
