By mid-March last year, we all knew things were about to change. Some employers were setting up work-from-home arrangements for employees. Traffic patterns in downtown Cincinnati, where I ve lived for the last 13 years, reflected that. Events big and small were getting canceled. People were giving each other more personal space in public.
Italy had gone into total lockdown to stop the spread of the coronavirus in early March, and people in Cincinnati were wondering if it would happen here. Toilet paper was becoming hard to find.
By March 24, 2020, shelves usually lined with toilet paper and other paper products began to sit empty, like this one at the Meijer store on Harrison Avenue.

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Difficult. Trying. Unprecedented.
These are the words just a few of them we use to describe what kind of year it’s been. (Did they run out of meaning by April or June?)
Meanwhile, the year itself, “2020,” lurks somewhere between a lament and a punchline hard to say aloud without laughing, whether it’s funny or not.
Often it was not. Businesses closed. People went missing. Beloved community members died. Shootings turned grotesquely commonplace.

As we dug into the data to see which stories resonated with you most in 2020, two topics dominated, not at all unsurprisingly.
Our coverage of the pandemic and the election mainly that of Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell are largely what you, our dear readers, clicked on most this year. That s a departure from the lists of years past, where such roundups tended to be a potpourri of past subjects. (See: 2018 and 2019.)
Still, there are a few outliers that remind us there are things we cared about before the year seemingly went mad. Herewith, this year s list:
