Daniel Alfredsson was ready to step in as an assistant coach for Sweden for the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship, but the six-time NHL all-star was ruled ineligible due to quarantine rules for the tournament.
The former Ottawa Senators captain was contacted by Sweden after coach Tomas Monten, along with two assistant coaches and two players, were deemed ineligible to participate in the tournament after testing positive for COVID-19 this week.
