A new type of donut is rising in Denver.
Dochi, an Orlando-based donut shop that specializes in Japanese mochi donuts, is getting ready to open its first Colorado location in RiNo next month.
“Most people don’t know what a mochi donut is, so our goal is to give everyone a chance to try it,” said co-founder Jason Le.
Dochi will be at 2449 Larimer St., where Hi Tide poke shop operated before closing in October. An official opening date has not been set, but the shop expects to open daily at 11 a.m. yes, don’t plan on grabbing donuts for breakfast and close between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. depending on the day.

The coho rushed the south side of Montrose Harbor so fast I lost feel of it Sunday as I hand pulled line. But Jason Le and crew assured me it was still on and I landed my first fish on a powerline.
I’ve wanted to fish with Le for a long time, partly for his fishing skills, but mainly for his eye in combining fishing and art in custom-painted lures, Instagram, YouTube and self-designed gaiters.
“Fishing is what we do every week on our days off,” said Le, who manages a small business and is off Tuesdays and Sundays. “Even if you go out and don’t catch fish, you still have fun.”
As proposed, a 1,000-square-foot space previously used by Mochi Frozen Yogurt will be renovated for the doughnut shop.
“Ever since we opened Bento 11 years ago, we wanted to introduce Jacksonville to new and exciting food concepts, progressing the food scene with Domu, Soupa Noodle Bar, and Norikase,” Jimmy Tung said.
“We’re proud to be part of that push to grow the community’s food culture boundaries,” Tung also said.
The shop, which makes the donuts fresh each morning, will rotate doughnut flavors. Among the popular Dochi flavors are Ube glaze, taro pebbles, and the Japanese-inspired Matcha Oreo.
Dochi plans to offer freshly made coffee and specialty drinks, such as Strawberry Matcha Latte, Ube Milk Tea and Vietnamese Yogurt Coffee to complement the doughnuts.
