Man killed during OPP theft investigation in Bobcaygeon

Ontario s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating the death of a man after a provincial police officer discharged his firearm near a residence north of Bobcaygeon.

OPP out in force amid Canada Road Safety Week

The OPP is ramping up traffic enforcement ahead of the long weekend. Canada Road Safety Week kicked off Tuesday. According to the OPP, 76 people have already died in collisions on OPP-patrolled roads this year.  “We’re concentrating our enforcement efforts and education efforts on the big four causal factors of fatal collisions that we’re seeing all the time,” says Sgt. Jason Folz, media coordinator for Central Region OPP. “Those are inattentive drivers, speeding and aggressive drivers, alcohol-related offenses, and people not wearing their seatbelts.” In the last 10 years, inattentive driving has caused 719 deaths, speeding has caused 679, impaired driving 615, and improper use of seat belts 565, according to the OPP.

Laclie Street in Orillia cleared following police investigation

BARRIE, ONT. Provincial police closed Laclie Street in Orillia for an investigation late Tuesday afternoon. OPP Sgt. Jason Folz told CTV News the area was closed between Parkhurst Crescent and Fittons Road East after reports of a suspicious package. Folz later said the investigation didn t turn up anything dangerous, and the road had reopened. Police did not elaborate on the situation, only adding the area was cleared. Share:

Gravenhurst s Mayor says confusion might have been a factor in incident at local skatepark

SHARE ON: A screencapture of the video (Photo credit: @brodieohare on Instagram) “It’s certainly concerning,” Gravenhurst Mayor Paul Kelly says of the controversial video circulating on social media of a confrontation between a Bracebridge OPP officer and a youth at a skatepark in Gravenhurst.  “There were signs that were posted, apparently, by staff saying that (the park) was closed, but apparently they got torn down,” he tells the MyMuskokaNow.com newsroom. Kelly says he was advised by a resident of the torn-down signs and later confirmed with Gravenhurst’s Public Works Department that they had put them up over the weekend. “I do believe there was probably some confusion,” he adds.
