UCLA researchers analyzed a certain type of DNA marker across hundreds of mammal species and found associations with traits such as lifespan, weight and age. The study, published in August, examined patterns of DNA methylation – a genomic modification that suppresses gene expression without changing the actual DNA sequence – in 348 mammalian species, said Jason Ernst, one of the study’s authors.
Scientists at UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine and UCLA Health led an international research team that published two articles detailing changes in DNA – changes that researchers found are shared by humans and other mammals throughout history and are associated with life span and numerous other traits.
