had a 29% approval, 56% disapproved. after it passed, 33% approve, 55% disapproved. so the numbers are improving for republicans as people start to learn more about it. i think, jason, they re anticipating they might have more money in their own pockets. yeah. i think when they start to see the checks come in february, march, and they see there is going to be a difference. by the time they get to april, start to realize, okay, this is what happened last year. this is what will happen this year. it will be a much better situation. again, republicans can help blow that up and destroy it by doing some silly stuff. but at the same time, it is going to make life better for america and most americans are going to see a real difference in their pocket book. dana: poll out today, juan, 66% of americans regard the state of the economy as excellent or good. that is up 3 points since december, when it was at 63%. so, it s kind of going in the
if, god forbid, there s a shutdown, it will fall on the majority leader s shoulders and the president s shoulders. we all know what the president said. he wants a shutdown. dana: with me now former utah congressman and fox news contributor, jason chavis and one of my co-hosts on the five. jason, you ve been here before. i don t think there will be a shutdown or there might be a deal? i think there will be a deal. i mean, you re talking about a short term continuing resolution just over a month. i think the deal has been sweetened by the chip fund. i don t think democrats will be able to resist that. they will flail right up until the very last moment, but i think ultimately a deal gets done. congress operates on a time crunch. dana: so, juan, are these threats of a shutdown just empty, just ways to try to get things to kick the can down the road at one point? they ve already had two continuing resolutions in december, dana, and i think what you ire seeing now is the
announced his retirement yesterday. now you have a race in utah. it s largely believed by many that mitt romney would try to throw his hat in the ring and that he would win. but listen to harry enson who tweeted this. i hope no one thinks steve bannon plays in utah. trump got slaughtered in utah s caucus. romney is more popular in utah than andy dalton in buffalo which apparently is some football reference that i should know. they make the playoffs one time and we ll never hear the end of it from enten. dana: do you think it s a foregone conclusion that romney would win? what about somebody like a mike lee? mike lee should keep his current senate seat. jason chavis probably gonna run for governor. mitt romney s more popular in utah than green jell-o. they like mitt romney a lot. he won 70% whatever of the vote.
dana: dramatic twist in the sonic attacks on americans and other foreign officials in cuba. doctors treating embassy victims say they found brain abnormalities. victims reported hearing loud sounds before experiencing hearing loss, changes in vision and memory problems. investigators now suggest those sounds may have been a bipro-dub of something else that caused the damage. secretary of state rex tillerson saying today he s convinced these were targeted attacks. fox news alert. senator al franken under growing pressure to resign, as another woman accuses him of sexual misconduct. support from his senate colleagues collapsing, as a growing number of democratic senators call on him to quit. franken s office said he ll have an announcement tomorrow. jason chavis is a contributor. jessica, what are you hearing from the democratic side about how this all came together today? it obviously was supercoordinated, when you had the statements coming out from
we have women on the hill, senators from both sides of the hill trying to get rid of arbitration clauses in women s contracts that prohibit them from speaking out. this might be the issue that finally brings us together on capitol hill. democrats want to be ahead of this. i think that it is, none of it is acceptable. all of us on the panel agree with that. but when you look at what roy moore has been accused of. we have the woman with the evidence of the notes he wrote her when she was 17 and he was 34. franken, obviously despicable, but democrats need to say you need to clean house. dana: jason i did it. i called you jason. this was all coordinated with doug jones in alabama. it seems to me now that we are at a point that i think that it would be best for the country, what would be best for his constituents is for senator franken to step aside and let s move on. dana: hard to believe this is
