Iconic Katy restaurant Midway BBQ destroyed in blaze By Claire Goodman, Staff writer Popular Katy barbecue restaurant Midway BBQ caught fire early Saturday morning, destroying the inside of the structure. Investigators are uncertain as to the time the blaze began, according to Jason Carlisle, general manager of Midway BBQ, but security cameras inside the establishment cut out at 1:40 a.m. Around 3 a.m., local country musician Hayden Baker was returning from a concert when he saw the plumes of smoke and called 911. Katy Fire Department arrived a few minutes later. No one was harmed in the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Carlisle stated that the fire marshal believes it began in the building’s office.
