we begin with breaking news. another problem on the new bay bridge. more bolts are failing. good evening. i m dan ashy. i m carolyn johnson. this time it is the new bridge s bike path. this is a live look at the bridge tonight. the latest trouble spot is also on the new eastern span. abc7 news transportation reporter heather ishimaru is there live for us. heather? carolyn, i just got off the phone with cal trans bay bridge spokesman and he tells me this problem was discovered well over a year ago and has already been repaired. he says that it s on the bike path, that the bike path railing is bolted into the path itself in such a way to allow for expansion and contraction by a matter of millimeters depending on the weather. what happened was that protective cap was not welded properly which caused the cap to break. but again he says that has been repaired and the problem has been solved and he will take us out there tomorrow to take a look for ourselves. earlier tonight w
