(Photo courtesy CMU Athletics) Central Michigan University senior wrestler Matt Stencel (Clay) went 1-2 at the NCAA Division I national tournament and failed to place this year. Stencel, the No. 3 seed at 285 pounds and a two-time All-American, overcame a 5-2 deficit in pinning Binghamton’s Joe Doyle, the 30th seed, with 30 seconds remaining in the match to open the tournament. At this point, Stencel was 11-0, but he would lose two straight to finish 11-2. In his next match, Stencel dropped a 2-1 decision to Wisconsin’s Trent Hillger. Stencel took a 1-0 lead with an escape early in the second period.
