TOKYO - A powerful cold front brought heavy snow to a wide area mainly on the nation s Sea of Japan side from Tuesday to Wednesday.
The snow was expected to continue intermittently on Thursday, with heavy precipitation expected in both mountain and lowland areas.
The Meteorological Agency is urging people to be on guard against icy roads and avalanches.
According to the agency, 1.28 meters of snow fell in the 24 hours to 5 a.m. Wednesday in Minakami, while 1.13 meters (44.5 inches) fell in the same period to 4 a.m. Wednesday in Yuzawa.
