The United Houma Nation distributed more than 200 boxes of free household goods to elderly tribe members Saturday along with information about an upcoming COVID-19 vaccination program.
Organizers said the drive-through event, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Dulac, was both a way to meet the needs of tribe members and have one-on-one conversations about the vaccine.
District 3 Tribal Councilman Janzen Verdin, who represents the lower Dulac and Dularge areas, emphasized the importance of providing these items to elders.
“It’s very important to take care of our elders who bore the brunt of racism and discrimination, Verdin said. We want to come together to alleviate their burden.”
