county, georgia charged him and 18 other defendants, including the other president with racketeering for their efforts to try to overturn the 2020 election. in the indictment, prosecutors say that the defendants, quote, joined a conspiracy to unlawfully change the outcome of the election in favor of trump. beyond trump himself, meadows is the highest ranking official to be charged. the indictment outlines the key role that prosecutors say that meadows played to try and keep trump in power. mister president. when election loss, he got involved, according to the lineman and november 20th. meadows and trump met with michigan legislators in the white house where the former president made false claims of election fraud in the state. the next day, prosecutors say that meadows sent a text to
in every way. i don t see how this case can be resolved before the election. i think it will be one of the last ones that will be resolved, quite frankly, i think the state prosecutor in georgia should ve deferred to jack smith and the special counsel as they investigated and pursue the indictment surrounding january 6th. that, from my experience, is what ordinarily happens whenever you have overlapping federal jurisdiction, state jurisdiction, the federal jurisdiction usually is deferred to by the state prosecutor. so, you agree with chris christie? because he has said similar basically, that he thinks the station of deferred, especially since that other indictment from jack smith became first. but given that you re saying you are a former federal prosecutor, you worked on this, you ve pursued racketeering charges in the past. so, what do you make of district attorney fani willis s application what s known as these rico charges and how this
should be removed the federal court. an agent for someone in a federal i mean, how does that? he wasn t being paid by the taxpayers, just because trump put him in charge those efforts. could he still have leeway to make that argument? certainly not. there s just no basis for this argument. mayor giuliani, frankly, is just making this up. being sent to do something by a candidate for future office does not grant you protection under the statute. it s simply wrong. okay, so no chance for rudy giuliani, do you think? i think no chance there. what do you make of mark meadows? he is indicted. here he is not indicted by jack smith. and that investigation to efforts overturn the election, do you think jack smith is unhappy about this? does this mess up his plan? it certainly escalates the mystery around mark meadows. if mark meadows was cooperating with jack smith, that could be, we don t know, he s not named in the indictment, he s not won the coconspirators. but people suspe
in which a verdict emerges in one direction or the other, it will be hard for them to have confidence in what took place inside. so, i think it s equally important, maybe more import in the federal case, but it would require a great departure from the usual rules. yeah, it seems very unlikely there. your hearings were televise. they showcase the role that mark meadows played in those efforts by trump to stay in power. i mean, what did you make of looking at these 98-page indictment, seeing his name on the first page as a codefendant? well, the absence of his name or the suggestion of his name as an unindicted coconspirator, potentially in the federal, degraded a lot profound questions about whether he s cooperating. those questions still continue. but certainly, if you want to lay out all the participants, all the facts in the way that is fulton county indictment does, all 95 pages of it, and then he s going to be included, because he was very much a participant in what they ve
significant, jim, is that cnn and other news outlets reported so extensively on these efforts that much of this was already known to us and to the public. of course, the january 6th committee has also investigated this extensively. remember, the federal indictment, the january 6th indictment, didn t have a lot of news, a lot of new details. it s astonishing. she lays out 161 different acts to support her allegations. we lost paula reed there. in the midst oh of a heavy rainstorm outside the courthouse there. paula, thanks so much. just a taste of the rainstorm of legal action to come, jessica. that s right. the d.a. in that georgia case wants a trial within six months. special counsel jack smith wants his trial to start in january. while trump and allies were focused on responding to the charges today, a co-defendant in
