person to a specific location? is this going to open it up to all kinds of things where people can say, i don t want to do this, because it is religious freedom. it is against my religion. what about a hotel that says only married people can stay with us or a dry cleaner owned by methodist that are saying, none of those stinky baptist clothes. what is taking janua brewer long to put in the opinions of this bill? how about weighing the politics. they are a little complicated. there is a lot of passion in favor among the social conservatives. is she just weighing the politics but also the economics. we are looking at the super bowl pulling out of arizona in 2015? apple saying it may reconsider setting up shop there. all these other companies saying, you know what, if you go
i m don lemon. this is the first weekend as people from arizona are dealing with their new lou and a judge blocked the controversial parts of it. governor january brewer said she will fight back and she did, right away, lost her bid to get a speedy appeal hearing so that s not going to happen until november. but we re learning now to governor janua brewer may try another tactic altogether. dan, what is the governor thinking about doing? what s this move? don, we re hearing the governor is considering going back to the legislator and having them work on, essentially, a new bill. i ll tell you about it. she s telling them, basically, go back and make some language tweaks if, in fact, that might accelerate matters. things are still in the preliminary stages and there s one issue she hadn t talked to state senator russell pierce. he s the author of the bill and
some of the governors are making their own headlines. let s bring in our deputy political director, paul steinhauser. hello to you. a name that a lot of people didn t know before this whole arizona immigration debate started. governor janua brewer. she is at this meeting. what is she turning heads about these days? the law its sever is kind of following her to boston. we expect about a half hour from now, groups opposed to that law, they say they plan a big protest nearby where the governors are meeting. that law is supposed to go into effect and allows or gives arizona authorities greater powers to question people about their immigration status. justice department has filed suit. that controversy back in arizona following her to boston, t.j. also, some of the governors, we know it is that time. we were talking about this earlier. it is time to run for president for a lot of people. still, this is the time if you are thinking about making a job switch. this is a good time to do it.
some of these governors are doing just that. one of them we are keeping an eye on who is in boston, governor joe manchin of west virginia. it was two weeks ago that the long-time senator, robert byrd, passed away. now, manchin may make an announcement he may run for byrd s old seat if that election is held as early as this november. a two-term governor, a democrat, maybe he is going to want to change his title from governor to senator. let s turn from the governors there to a senate candidate, one that has gotten a lot of attention, alvin green, out of south carolina i guess still in the race, still saying he can win. do we know much more about him? he has a platform? does he have a suit? alvin green, a novice, who had never run for political office before. everybody said who. he didn t campaign or run any commercials. one of the question marks was, how did he afford that $10,000
it. i d rather make all of those undocumented individuals pay taxes to our country. i d want them to learn english. i d want them to go through a criminal background check so we know who is overall obeying the law and those things cannot happen unless we have comprehensive immigration reform. i also don t want to see wages depressed for all workers by having a subclass of workers that can be exploited. it s about economic interests, it s about security interests but this will come after we do wall street reform because that is pressing to the country. we can never have the taxpayers reach into their pockets again because big businesses on wall street make risky gambles when it paid off for them. they kept the money. when it didn t pay off for them, we had to pay. we ll get to financial reform in a minute. i want to turn you both to politics for a moment. senator chambliss i want to draw your attention to a written statement from former vice president dick cheney talking about the flo
