March Is Extension Month Friday, March 5, 2021 March is Extension Month in Tennessee. Extension is a national educational program supported by USDA through the nation’s land-grant universities and administered with funding from state and local governments. In Hamilton County, both University of Tennessee Extension and Tennessee State University Cooperative Extension provide programming to the citizens of Hamilton County. There are programs for youth and adults in the areas of Agriculture, Family and Consumer Sciences and 4-H Youth Development. Extension agents provide educational programming throughout the year. Members of the Extension support staff include Amanda Sanders, Marilyn Cotton and Dee Clark. They work with each program area to advance the work of Extension. When calling or coming into the office one of them is usually the first contact.

But Ali Rabe, executive director at the nonprofit Jesse Tree focused on housing support, says that hasn’t stopped many people from losing their homes. “Eviction court, what my staff tell me is proceeding business as usual since the moratorium came down in September,” she said. Stephaine Day is director of the Catch Program and works with people seeking housing assistance. She said pandemic programs have kept many clients safe from evictions. But that doesn’t paint the entire picture. In January, 35 adult-only households applied for Catch’s assistance, last year it was 27. As the pandemic surged, Catch saw a 78% increase in people looking for their services from the year before.

Panel offers women tips to advance in CRE field

That’s according to panelists during Minnesota Commercial Real Estate Women’s virtual forum Wednesday. They were speaking to a group aimed at advancing women globally in the commercial real estate space. Men hold approximately 73% of undergraduate and graduate real estate degrees in the U.S. and Canada, according to CREW Network. Once in the industry, women in commercial real estate hold 54% of mid-level associate and senior positions; 27% of senior vice president, managing director and partner level positions; and 9% of C-suite positions, according to CREW’s data.

Autry Park, a multi-use development nestled on some 14 acres at the western edge of Buffalo Bayou Park, is set to dazzle locals in 2021. The three-phase masterplan for the Autry Park urban village boasts five towers encompassing 1,450 residential units, 350,000 square-feet of Class A office space, and 100,000 square-feet of retail, according to a press release. The complex will be situated around a central greenspace.
